“Was it wrong for me to hold you?”

He once said he was better off alone, but it was all a fallacy he had built to protect himself… to attempt to protect himself anyway. Days had gone by and no one called, no one checked up on him, because he had cut ties with the only person who ever really cared.

Rock bottom was where he was.

The phone rang.

The phone rang again.

Was this his chance to connect with someone again? It didn’t matter who was on the other end. His soul was buried in sadness, and only someone else’s voice could start to dig him out again.

The phone rang again.

He picked up.

“Wrong Number” Lyric Sheet. These were likely the second oldest lyrics written, after Chaos All. I just had the idea and wrote down the lyrics without a beat or melody in mind at the time. Then over a year later… BOOM!

Lyrics

I know you didn't mean to call
But I'm so glad that you did
I need somebody
Anybody at all
Please don't hang up

I could use some help
For my soul
I need someone to connect
And none of my friends are home
Don't hang up
You're all that's left

You called a Wrong Number
You didn't ask for this
You called a Wrong Number
You didn't ask for this
Was it right for me to hold you?
Was it right for me to exist?
You called a Wrong Number

I know you didn't mean to call
But I'm glad you did
I need somebody
Anybody at all
I could use some help for my soul
But none of my friends are home
Please don't hang up
Consider it a gift
Consider it a gift
Consider it a gift
Please don't hang up

You called the Wrong Number
You didn't ask for this
You called the Wrong Number
You didn't ask for this
Was it wrong for me to hold you?
Was it right for me to exist?
You called the Wrong Number

WHERE IT BEGAN

There’s a few differences in the kick, and less guitar layering, but overall, there were only ever a few takes of “Wrong Number” recorded. It’s a deeply intimate song that made Eloy cry when singing it.
